Music Together® Classes

Thank you for your interest in our classes! (scroll down for schedule)

As a family in one of our Music Together classes, you and your child will have the opportunity to play musically each week under the guidance of one of our early childhood music specialists. During each 45-minute class*, you will sing and move to songs and rhythmic rhymes in a variety of meters and tonalities by participating in activities that include small and large movement, instrument play-alongs, and community singing. These fun activities are presented as informal, non-performance-oriented musical experiences that are developmentally appropriate for children and easy for parents and caregivers to participate in regardless of their own musical ability.

*Please see the Class Descriptions page for full information on the new Rhythm Kids pilot for children 4&5 and K-2.

What's in the Box: Each fall, winter, spring session has its own song collection, with nine distinct collections in all; summer CDs are compilations Summer Songs 1–3; holiday session uses Music Together "Family Favorites" vol. 1 or 2). Families new to Music Together will also receive our “Music Together at Home: Helping Your Child Grow Musically” parent DVD, a growth chart to look ahead at your child's potential musical development (and yours), and other handouts from Music Together with instrument deals and contests

No CD player? Check out the Family Music Zone and "Hello, Everybody" app: Enrolled families receive a code to access Music Together's Family Music Zone where you can download the songs from the current song collection and explore fun content created just for you. Families can also unlock their song collections on Music Together's free "Hello, Everybody" app and play songs karaoke-style (showing the words)!

Class Size:  The minimum enrollment is generally six children; maximum is twelve. Two adult caregivers are always welcome to participate (parents, nannies, grandparents, aunts/uncles, etc.). Any class not meeting the minimum enrollment is subject to cancellation, so invite your friends to join you in your favorite class if you see there's space! See FAQ on Who Can Attend?

Starting a Class: To start a class with your friends or parenting group, please contact the director. You'll need four–six children to get started, depending on type & location. Good times are classes that are listed as "On Hold" or times before or after an existing class, though a teacher might have availability on other days, as well.

On Hold: To put your name on a waiting list for a class that's on hold, contact valleycatmusic@gmail.com

Show classes for:
Mixed Ages 0-5/Family

Children birth to 5 years with parent(s) or caregiver. Enjoy ten weeks of music immersion with singing, dancing, chants and fingerplays, instrument play, jam sessions, and improvisation in a supportive, community environment.

This is the essential Music Together class, one that a child can attend from birth through age five—and through all nine distinct song collections. Teachers lead informal but structured instruction where children may or may not participate as they choose and do so according to their developmental level. This class is freely mixed with ages from birth to age five where the activities focus on adult-child interaction rather than child-child. Many childhood educators consider mixed-age groupings beneficial, and the process of music development throughout this age range is similar.

Babies (0-8m.)

This class is designed for parents and their pre-crawling infants eight months and younger at the time of registration.

Every child's development benefits from early exposure to music and movement. Because the early months are so important, Music Together offers two options for babies. Babies may attend a Mixed Ages Class, whether registered on their own or attending for free with an older brother or sister. Babies eight months and under (who are not yet crawling/independently mobile) may also take the special "Babies Class" offered as a one-semester introduction to Music Together (this class cannot be repeated). The music activities and materials are specially designed for parents to interact with their babies and to learn about music development in infants. Meet other parents of newborns and learn some fascinating music activities you can recreate at home with your baby.

Big Kids® (5-8yrs)

The Music Together Big Kids class is a new offering from Music Together for older children 5 to 8 years old (kindergarten through 2nd grade and up). This one-hour class encourages more independence (kids attend by themselves except for the beginning and end of class) and reaches further toward music literacy while maintaining all the creativity and fun of the mixed-age class. Check out this video to learn about the class and what kind of fun and discovery your older child can experience!

Adult Guitar

The Music Together Adult Guitar class is open to adults related to registered students only. It's an eight-week grownups-only gathering that starts week 3 of a 10-week session and is designed to teach beginners through intermediates in a mixed-stage atmosphere. No advanced skills will be taught. You provide your own guitar (nylon-string classical guitars recommended for beginners), capo, and tuner, and I will teach you how to play songs from the current Music Together collection, starting with the Hello Song (plus one song of your choice from outside the Music Together repertoire). Your kids will love you, and you will be showing them that even "old" people can learn a new skill (and it feels great)!

Comes with curriculum materials in a binder, one per person. Childcare is not provided; adults only.

Rhythm Kids Level Two

Drumming-based music curriculum for kindergarten through 2nd graders, dropped off. (Further description to come!)
